We might've influenced a NEW feature to be added in 0.5...

Summary

  • Discussion regarding the power scaling disparity caused by maximum socket limitations on lower-level skills compared to level 20 versions.
  • Exploration of potential solutions to allow players to increase socket counts on non-max-level items.
  • Proposed implementation of either a direct currency-based solution or a vendor recipe to address the issue.

Addressing Socket Limitations on Skills

Current game design restricts maximum sockets to level 20 versions of skills, creating a significant power scaling disadvantage for lower-level skills. The current mechanics do not allow for the natural progression of socket counts as a skill levels up, which creates a disparity that feels problematic for character development.

Proposed Solutions

To resolve this, multiple potential solutions are being considered for the 0.5 update or shortly thereafter:

  1. Direct Currency Usage: Allowing the use of a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb directly on items to increase sockets regardless of the skill’s current level.
  2. Vendor Recipe: If direct currency application proves technically difficult, a temporary fallback solution is planned:
    • Combine a level 19 item.
    • Use a level 20 Uncut Skill.
    • Include a Perfect Jeweller’s Orb.
    • Result: This would grant a level 20, 6-linked item.

Development intends to follow up on these proposals to ensure at least one of these solutions is implemented to improve the player experience regarding skill progression and socket management.
