Rune System Enhancements

The 0.5 expansion introduces significant updates to the rune system, addressing previous player pain points while adding depth:

  • Utility & Power: New runes provide specific powers to weapon types, such as increased druidic prowess for bear builds or additional grenade activations for crossbows.
  • Early Game Power: 22 new runes, such as the Rune of the Prism, are designed to offer massive power spikes (e.g., elemental resistance adjustments) for low-level players.
  • Advanced Crafting:
    • Legacy of Aldur runes allow players to destroy a unique item, extract its unique modifier, and socket that modifier into another item of the same class.
    • Specific runes now allow for the rolling of decay modifiers or the addition of extra suffix modifiers to gear.
    • Note: These advanced socketed modifiers are often permanent and cannot be retrieved or replaced once applied.

Patch Note Additions and Changes

Following community feedback and internal reviews, several balance and mechanical changes have been implemented:

  • Unique Item Crafting: Verissium rune forging can now be applied to unique weapons in addition to unique armor.
  • Combat Mechanics: Spell Cascade is no longer restricted to self-cast spells.
  • Defense Rebalancing: Armor and evasion received significant buffs, with new clusters on the passive skill tree for elemental and chaos damage; energy shield recharge has been nerfed to promote defensive parity.
  • Socketing Skills: Players can now use jeweler’s orbs to increase the number of sockets on items that grant skills, eliminating the need to hunt for higher-level base items.
  • Content Changes:
    • Expedition NPCs (Rog, Gwennen, Dannig, and Tujen) are now non-interactable decorations.
    • The passive tree now features 25 skill points instead of 24.
    • Mark of Siphoning received a nerf, limiting mana leech to 8% of physical attack damage.

The Crafting Modifier Debacle

New rules regarding item modification caused confusion within the community. While clarity remains limited, the current understanding is:

  1. All crafted modifiers are now guaranteed, but items are limited to one crafted modifier at a time.
  2. Desecrated modifiers no longer count toward the crafted modifier limit, but items are similarly limited to one desecrated modifier.
