The Homelander of PoE 2 League Start Builds

Summary

  • Arc Mage Totems: A potential meta-defining build utilizing Ancestral Bond to remove totem costs, combined with Arc Mage for significant lightning damage scaling without mana sustain issues.
  • Infinite Recovery Loop: A defensive interaction involving Spirit Walkers, damage shifting to minions, and high-value recoup mechanics (using items like Starcannias and Romira’s Requital) to create effectively infinite life regeneration.
  • Blood Mage/Comet Tech: Persistent viability of “Comet” builds due to potential bugs with Sanguine Tides and flask mechanics, allowing for high-frequency skill usage despite previous leech nerfs.
  • Twisters: A highly anticipated build expected to dominate the 0.5 meta (projected 30–40% play rate) due to extreme boss-killing speed, capable of clearing Tier 15 maps in exceptionally short timeframes.

Ancestral Bond and Arc Mage Synergy

Ancestral Bond, traditionally used for totems, has been adjusted in the 0.5 patch to no longer require charges, making it free to use. This creates a powerful interaction with the Arc Mage persistent buff. Because totems are free with Ancestral Bond, they do not suffer from the high mana costs typically associated with Arc Mage, allowing for massive lightning damage scaling and high cast speed without the usual sustain penalties. Additionally, the internal cooldown on totems has been replaced by a 50% skill cost modifier, further enabling this combination.

Infinite Recovery with Spirit Walkers

The Spirit Walkers ascendancy allows for a playstyle where a significant portion of damage taken is shifted to companions. By stacking specific items and nodes:

  • Romira’s Requital (Lineage gem)
  • Captivating Companionship (Passive node)
  • Starcannias (Corrupted item modifier)

Players can shift roughly 44% of damage to their minions. Because this damage is recouped, the build creates an infinite recovery loop. By scaling minion life, only a fraction of incoming damage reaches the player, and that damage is effectively negated by the high recoup values, resulting in constant, net-positive life regeneration even with minimal investment.

Blood Mage and “Comet” Tech

Despite previous nerfs to life leech, the “Comet” archetype remains viable due to a bug with Sanguine Tides. This item currently provides more life charges to flasks than intended. Using flask macros—or manual, high-frequency pressing—players can achieve nearly infinite life expenditure, enabling the rapid casting of high-damage skills (referred to as “Comets”). Even without perfect macro optimization, this tech provides immense recovery and damage throughput.

The Rise of Twisters

Twisters are projected to be the dominant force in the 0.5 league, with estimations suggesting a 30–40% play rate. The build is noted for its ability to delete bosses and clear high-tier content with unprecedented speed. Reports indicate the build is capable of clearing Tier 15 maps in roughly 30 minutes, with early-game trees that allow players to transition into high-power setups (specifically regarding spear builds on the Witch class) almost immediately.
