Summary

  • 100% Act 1 Completion: This run includes all progression-relevant quests and optional areas, including the Mud Burrow.
  • Twister Monk Build: A high-speed Monk archetype utilizing wind-based skills and precision movement to clear Act 1 in under 44 minutes.
  • Key Progression Mechanic: Activating six dormant beacons throughout the wilderness to reveal the path forward.
  • Central Antagonists: The run culminates in the betrayal of Executioner Justin by the manipulative Utza, leading to a final confrontation with a transformed “Wolf Boss.”

Escape and the Miller’s Trial

The journey begins following an escape from execution. Hunted as a “pagan,” I encounter a dying guard who mentions Miller Zoltan. After navigating the initial path, I face Miller Zoltan in combat to prove my skill. Upon his defeat, he acknowledges that skill surpasses raw strength and requests assistance.

He provides a blacksmith’s hammer and tasks me with channeling violence against a “devoured thing.” This begins the process of clearing the surrounding corruption and exploring the local forge discipline.

The Great Tangle and the First Beacons

While exploring the wilderness, I discover ancient relics and beacons humming with dormant power. Activating these lights is essential for progression.

  • The Great Tangle: I enter a foul lair to confront “The Great Tangle,” an invasive creature driven by “Apex’s hunger.” Defeating it restores nature’s balance temporarily.
  • The Nightmare: I encounter a “forgotten witch” and a nightmare entity. By defeating these manifestations, I prove that nightmares hold no power over the disciplined mind.

During this phase, I meet Fiona, a collector of “odds and ends,” and Finn, a skilled blacksmith. Finn provides tools and equipment, while Fiona’s collection serves as a point of interest throughout the journey.

The Six Beacons and the Malicious Presence

Progression requires the activation of six beacons across various zones.

  1. Exploration: I move through areas of “everlasting malice” and forbidden thaumaturgy that cause nothing but misery.
  2. Rescue: I assist citizens whose families have been abducted, lighting beacons as I progress.
  3. The General: I face a Boss General who demands I succumb to the empire. Defeating him allows the Ezomytes buried in the area to finally find peace.
  4. Completion: Upon lighting the sixth and final beacon, the way forward reveals itself.

The Village and the Corrupted Abominations

Approaching the village, the terrain becomes familiar but heavily corrupted.

  • Sister Boss: I encounter a “Sister” boss who pleads for an end to the conflict. Despite her pleas, the path of peace is often littered with death, a sentiment echoed by the Miller.
  • The Girl’s Despair: I recover items to assuage the despair of a local girl, utilizing music to aid in the order of the mind.

The Betrayal of Utza and the Executioner

I eventually encounter Utza, a manipulative figure who claims the “power of the wild bird.” She mocks the conflict and eventually leads me to the Executioner, Justin.

  • The Interloper: Utza commands Justin to kill me, promising him rewards for my head.
  • The Betrayal: When Justin fails to immediately succeed, Utza deems him too weak. She refuses to “release the beast” for him, instead abandoning him to his fate.
  • The Transformation: Manipulated and enraged, Justin undergoes a monstrous transformation, becoming the Wolf Boss.

Final Confrontation: Wolf Boss Justin

The final battle takes place against the transformed Executioner Justin. He channels the “Soul of a warrior” and the “Forsaken Frosts,” utilizing cold-based attacks and a “pack of bone.”

  • Victory: By maintaining discipline and utilizing Monk training, I clear his mind and defeat the beast, concluding the first act.
