[POE 3.28] Cold Snap of Power Lifestack Gladiator: Second build of Mirage
Summary
- Core Skill: Cold Snap of Power (Transfigured Gem) utilizing Power Charges to bypass cooldowns.
- Scaling Mechanic: Extreme life-stacking (20k+ HP) combined with Rathpith Globe and Sacrifice Support for massive flat chaos and percent spell damage.
- Defensive Layers: Gladiator “Lucky” Block (78/75 cap), Dissolution of the Flesh, and damage conversion via Sublime Vision (Purity of Fire) and Tempered by War.
- Unique Interaction: Greater Spell Cascade with a 4.8-meter radius breakpoint allows for five overlapping hits, multiplying damage output significantly.
- Utility: Echoing Shrine and Massive Shrine scaling via a specialized belt and The Gull for increased speed and area of effect.
Cold Snap of Power Mechanics
Cold Snap of Power is a transfigured spell that functions as an instant blast with a large area of effect (AoE). While it has a native cooldown, it can consume a Power Charge to bypass it.
- Charge Generation: The gem has a built-in 50% chance to gain a Power Charge on critical strike. By linking Power Charge on Critical Support, this chance nears 100%, allowing for infinite spamming against targets.
- Overlap Scaling: Using Greater Spell Cascade creates four additional blasts around the central click. If the character reaches a specific AoE breakpoint—approximately a 4.8 radius—all five blasts overlap on the central target, effectively providing a 5x damage multiplier.
- Base Stats: The skill features a 10% base critical strike chance, making it exceptionally easy to reach the critical strike cap.
Life-Stacking and Damage Conversion
The build utilizes life-stacking to provide both survivability and offensive power.
- Rathpith Globe: Provides 6% spell critical strike chance and increased spell damage per 100 maximum life. At over 20,000 life, this single item nearly caps critical strike chance.
- Sacrifice Support: Supported spells sacrifice 20% of current life to gain added chaos damage equal to 55% of the sacrificed amount. This provides a massive source of flat chaos damage.
- Dissolution of the Flesh: This jewel changes how damage is taken; instead of losing life, damage reserves life for two seconds. This interaction allows the player to sacrifice life for skills without reducing the “defensive” life pool, as the sacrifice does not count as taking damage.
- Eternal Youth: This keystone makes Energy Shield recharge apply to life. Because Dissolution of the Flesh prevents “taking damage” from depleting the actual life pool, the recharge remains active almost constantly, sustaining the life costs of Sacrifice Support.
Gladiator and Sustain
The Gladiator ascendancy provides unique utility and defensive layers for a spellcaster.
- Weapon Master (Claws): While unusual for spells, using a claw allows the Gladiator to access 20% instant leech. Combined with a glove implicit for “Chaos Damage Leeched as Life,” this provides the necessary sustain to spam high-cost sacrifices on single targets.
- Block Layers: The build utilizes “Lucky” block to reach effective caps of 96% against both attacks and spells. The ascendancy also forces the shield’s base block chance to 50%, which significantly buffs the Rathpith Globe.
- Mobility: Due to the Echoing Shrine belt making movement somewhat “stuttery,” mobility is primarily handled via Frostblink linked with Sacrifice Support and Power Charge on Critical.
Defensive Core and The Apostate
To mitigate the weaknesses of Dissolution of the Flesh (such as damage-over-time preventing life reservation resets), the build employs a complex conversion setup:
- Conversion: Using a Sublime Vision (Purity of Fire) and the Tempered by War keystone, 100% of incoming Cold and Lightning damage is converted to Fire damage.
- Ailment Immunity: Converting all hits to Fire prevents the application of non-Fire ailments (Chill, Shock, Brittle) from hits. Ignite and Burning Ground immunity are then secured through a Watcher’s Eye.
- The Apostate: This unique body armor converts Energy Shield from all other equipped armor pieces into flat maximum life, which is the primary driver for reaching the 20,000+ life threshold.
Gear and Jewel Scaling
- The Adorned: A core component used to scale Magic jewels featuring percent life and increased AoE.
- The Gull: Used in tandem with a shrine belt to scale the effects of Massive and Echoing shrines.
- Clusters: Medium clusters with Assert Dominance and Towering Threat provide efficient scaling for both life and the necessary AoE radius. Overwhelming Malice is used to apply Wither on hit.
- Automation: Linked to Immortal Call and Arcane Surge Support. This ensures permanent Arcane Surge uptime (for the 35% more spell damage) despite the build using Lifetap for most skills.
Path of Building and Future Optimizations
The current setup achieves extremely high DPS (multi-billion) assuming all five cascades overlap.
- Map Mod Viability: The build can run almost any map modifier, including No Regen and No Leech, though it currently requires a Pantheon swap or mastery for Physical Reflect immunity.
- Future Scaling (Tainted Pact): A potential future iteration involves the “Witch Mark” mastery and the Ritual Ascendancy node to grant added chaos damage based on life cost. This would likely require Tainted Pact and self-poisoning to provide the infinite recovery needed to survive the resulting massive life costs.
