[PoE 2] Make Lightning Spear Great Again - League Start Guide | 0.5 Return of the Ancient

Summary

  • Build Overview: A Lightning Spear Amazon starter designed for safe progression, utilizing Storm Lance for single-target damage and transitioning into the Spirit Walker Ascendancy.
  • Core Mechanics: The build focuses on high attack speed and mobility. It incorporates “Eternal Rage” in the Interlude phase to generate Frenzy charges, which are used to empower Storm Lance for deleting rare enemies and bosses.
  • Leveling Strategy: Progression is broken down by acts with specific item breakpoints and gem setups. The guide emphasizes holding currency for key weapon upgrades at levels 16, 33, and 51.
  • Playstyle: A hybrid approach using Lightning Spear for clearing and a specific rotation of Storm Lance, Explosive Spear, and Frost Bomb for bosses.

Why Lightning Spear Amazon

This build serves as a reliable league starter capable of farming currency for Tier 15 maps. It is intended to bridge the gap until the player can transition into the Spirit Walker Ascendancy, which requires four ascendancy points to reach full potential.

Leveling Progression

  • Act 1:
    • Acquire Contagion early for AOE clearing.
    • Key skill acquisitions: Explosive Spear (level 2), Lightning Spear (level 6), and Rapid Attack support.
    • Weapon Breakpoints: Look for a level 5 spear in the Red Trail. Avoid using crafting currency on Act 1 weapons; save it for the level 16 upgrade.
    • Rotation: Throw Frost Bomb, followed by Explosive Spear and Lightning Spear. Parry boss abilities to generate charges and improve survivability.
  • Act 2:
    • Acquire Short Fuse for Explosive Spear to simplify the rotation.
    • Weapon Upgrade: Focus on a high physical damage base at level 16. Use Regal Orbs and Exalted Orbs to improve it.
    • Ascendancy: Complete the first point as soon as possible to gain Predatory Instinct for increased skill speed and damage.
    • Rotation Update: Use Storm Lance, three Explosive Spears, and Sniper’s Mark.
  • Act 3:
    • Pick Mana Regeneration in the Venom Crypts for better long-term comfort.
    • At level 33, craft a new spear using physical damage bases, Regal Orbs, and added Runes.
  • Act 4 & Interlude:
    • Continue prioritizing high physical damage weapons. At level 51, look for a Sea Glass base to craft, as this will carry through the Interlude.
    • During the Interlude, prioritize the boss that moves frequently first to avoid missing with Storm Lance.

Swapping to Eternal Rage

  • Transition: Upon reaching the Interlude and obtaining the last spirit points, swap to the Eternal Rage setup at level 58.
  • Requirements: Requires at least 30 Spirit from gear and meeting the strength requirement.
  • Setup:
    1. Activate Eternal Rage on both weapons.
    2. Replace Ferocious Roar with Fury of the Mountain (requires a level 9+ skill gem).
    3. Prioritize adding the Bramble Slam support gem to Fury of the Mountain.
  • Frenzy Charge Management: Frenzy charges are not intended for constant use with Lightning Spear, as the high attack speed consumes them instantly. Instead, generate charges via Eternal Rage to empower Storm Lance when engaging rare monsters or bosses.
