Seafaring and Ocean Exploration

In the Runes of Aldur league, Logbooks facilitate seafaring exploration. A vast ocean exists to the southeast of the Atlas, containing new environments and buried treasures. By using Logbooks on the ocean map, the fog recedes to reveal new islands. Most of these islands feature unique layouts and Expedition encounters not previously seen.

Core Expedition Mechanics and Crafting

The fundamental gameplay involves using explosives to unearth the remains of buried Kalguurans, defeating them, and claiming their loot. This expansion introduces the Runes of Aldur crafting remnants. These remnants provide immense crafting opportunities through a broad selection of recipes.

Specialized Island Encounters

Each island features unique environmental objects to discover and explode:

  • Bleached Shoals: Contains siren eggs and riches-filled clams. Destroying eggs spawns sirens from the water; destroying a significant number of eggs triggers a boss encounter with the siren mother.
  • Craggy Peninsula: Home to a camp of the Kin residing in hovels. Players can blow up these dwellings to force enemies out, free caged beasts, or even release caged Exiles to watch them fight.
  • Inland Heath: Features a gigantic remnant surrounded by smaller rune stones. Activating these stones via explosives unlocks slots on the massive remnant, enabling the use of nearly any crafting recipe.

Advanced Discovery and Progression

Exploration is not limited to the surface. Other discoverable elements include:

  • Trapped Wisps to be freed.
  • Reinforced iron doors to be breached.
  • Ancient Precursor technology to be raised.

To push further into the ocean, players must acquire additional Logbooks by killing Runic monsters, which are identified by large flagpoles at dig sites. Continued exploration leads to deeper waters containing ancient vaults, new bosses, and secret underground areas.
