One of the BIGGEST TRADES EVER in Path of Exile?
Summary
- Acquisition of an Alternate Art Queen’s Decree for 250 Mirrors of Kalandra, one of the most expensive cosmetic trades in the game’s history.
- Explanation of “Alternate Arts” as limited cosmetic rewards from historical race seasons, many of which are now lost to banned accounts or inactive players.
- The role of the Path of Exile 1 Currency Exchange (Auction House) in enabling the liquidation of older assets to fund high-value purchases.
- A comprehensive “flex” showcase of a collection valued between 2,000 and 3,000 mirrors, including Demigod items and rare 2D/3D skins.
- Discussion on the security of account-bound cosmetics and the future value of these items as they transition into Path of Exile 2.
The 250 Mirror Acquisition
The purchase of the Alternate Art Queen’s Decree is a significant milestone, made possible by the recent addition of the auction house. Previously, the friction of selling smaller race rewards and assets made such a massive purchase difficult. This specific item was listed by a player named Haiku for 250 mirrors. At the time of purchase, only 140 mirrors were available in the personal stash, necessitating a loan of 110 mirrors from UberElite.
A repayment plan is in place to settle the debt with UberElite, which involves selling off various historical race rewards. While necessary, this may involve selling a prize Demigod item from a first-ever Gauntlet clearance—a piece of personal history that is difficult to part with.
Understanding Alternate Art Items
For those unfamiliar with Path of Exile’s history, Alternate Arts (Alt-Arts) are items with unique 2D and 3D skins that were awarded during specific competitive “Race Seasons.”
- Cosmetic Nature: Functionally, an Alt-Art Queen’s Decree is identical to the common version of the item, which typically costs one Alchemy Orb. The value lies entirely in the rare skin.
- Scarcity: These items are extremely limited. It is estimated that fewer than 150 to 250 of certain Alt-Arts exist in a tradable state.
- The “Convert” Feature: Most of these items are eventually “converted” into permanent account-bound cosmetics. Once converted, they cannot be traded again, further reducing the circulating supply.
- Lost Assets: A significant portion of the original supply is lost due to players being banned for real-money trading (RMT) or simply leaving the game years ago.
The History of the Collection
Many of these items were earned during Season 5 and subsequent race periods. Ironically, the Queen’s Decree was a reward in a season where I was active, but I chose not to grind for it at the time because the base item was perceived as “trash” (worth only one Chaos Orb). Decades later, that decision resulted in a 250-mirror price tag.
Other items in the collection, such as the Demigod’s Presence, were acquired with the help of the community. Despite a general “no handouts” policy for gameplay, an exception was made for this cosmetic item on the Standard realm. Other high-value assets were gifted years ago by veteran players like Gharotta, who distributed Alt-Arts to newer players when they were significantly less expensive.
A Showcase of Rare Artifacts
The collection includes a variety of historical rewards and high-value trades:
- Character Scaling Items: Demigod’s Eyes and other Demigod pieces that increase the character’s physical model size.
- Amulets: Alternate arts for Chayula, Natural Hierarchy, Ngamutiki, Pure Purity, and Ignomon.
- Body Armors: Cloak of Flame (the first Alt-Art ever purchased for 300 Exalted Orbs), Thousand Ribbons, and Briskwrap.
- Flasks: The Alternate Art Taste of Hate, considered one of the best 2D skins in the game.
- Boots and Belts: Goldwyrm, Wanderlust, Blood Dance, Wurm’s Molt, and The Magnate.
- Helmets: Highly sought-after skins for Alpha’s Howl, Heatshiver, Mindspiral, and Three Dragons.
- Weapons and Shields:
- Crest of Perandus: The first Alt-Art Demigod earned while streaming.
- Soul Taker and The Princess: Earned through personal racing achievements.
- Prismatic Eclipse and Lifesprig: Acquired during eras when they cost as little as 30 Exalted Orbs.
Security and Future Value
A major shift in the value and safety of these items occurred with the introduction of the “Convert to Microtransaction” feature.
- Anti-Hacking Security: Previously, holding thousands of mirrors worth of tradable Alt-Arts made an account a high-priority target for hackers. Now that items are converted to account-bound cosmetics, they cannot be stolen or traded away even if an account is compromised.
- Path of Exile 2 Compatibility: Most of these cosmetics, including wings and certain armor skins, are confirmed to work in Path of Exile 2.
- Market Speculation: While swords and certain weapons are not yet implemented in the PoE 2 beta, their value is expected to spike once those weapon classes are added, as the supply of Alt-Arts is functionally exhausted.
Final Financial Note
In a desperate attempt to avoid selling the Gauntlet Demigod sword to pay back UberElite, a one-mirror gamble was attempted using Life Force and Divination cards. The gamble resulted in a total loss of the mirror, confirming that the liquidation of the race rewards remains the only viable path to settling the debt.
