Making an honest living in Path of Exile | #sebk94 on #Twitch

Summary

  • A demonstration of the Divination Card gambling mechanic using the Harvest crafting bench in Path of Exile.
  • The process involves sacrificing a stack of cards to either lose them, receive nothing, or double the amount.
  • Detailed management of card stacks, including adding cards from the inventory after losses and removing them after gains to maintain specific input sizes.
  • High-risk, high-reward gameplay commonly referred to by the community as “gambling” or “stack-doubling.”

Initial Gambles and Stack Adjustments

The process begins with an initial click where nothing happens. Upon the second click, a loss of four cards occurs. To compensate, take a stack of four cards and place them back into the Harvest crafting window. Clicking again results in a gain of seven cards.

As the stack grows, it is necessary to manage the quantity. After a gain of six cards, click again. If the result is a loss of two cards, the strategy dictates clicking again and then removing six cards from the current stack to reset the input.

Managing Fluctuations and Stack Input

When the button is clicked again, the stack size increases by four. On subsequent clicks where nothing happens, take another four cards out. If the current cards are consumed entirely, take a fresh stack of eight and place them in the bench.

The following sequence of results occurs:

  1. Gain of five cards: Remove them from the bench.
  2. Gain of seven cards: Remove them.
  3. Loss of three cards (-3): Put three cards back into the bench from the inventory.
  4. Loss of four cards (-4): Put four cards back in.
  5. Gain of one card (+1): Click again immediately.
  6. Gain of seven cards (+7): Continue the cycle.

The Final Tally and Outcome

After a loss of three cards, take three out to adjust. A subsequent click yields a gain of five, followed by a gain of two. At this stage, tally up the total number of cards earned.

The final clicks show high volatility:

  • Loss of four cards: Replenish with four cards.
  • Loss of one card: Fill the stack with one card.
  • Gain of seven cards: Resulting in a near-full stack.
  • Gain of two cards: Finalizing the run.

Despite reaching a “winning” state or a full stack, the repetitive and high-stress nature of the activity leads to the concluding realization that the player is “down bad” due to the inherent risks of the gambling mechanic.
