Guardian Absolution Gauntlet Leaguestarter
Summary
- Playstyle: A noob-friendly, tanky build designed to beat the campaign and enter maps safely in a hardcore solo self-found (HCSSF) environment.
- Core Defense: Utilizes the Guardian’s Sentinel of Radiance for 20% damage diversion, high block chance, and defensive auras (Determination, Flesh and Stone, Tempest Shield).
- Core Offense: Absolution Sentinels provide strong clear and single-target damage, significantly boosted by the addition of Vaal Absolution.
- Mobility: Scales minion attack speed nodes which also apply to the player, making Shield Charge exceptionally fast for campaign progression.
- Key Mechanics: Spiritual Aid allows minion damage to scale player hits to ensure easy summoning of Sentinels; Lightning Golem solves mana sustain via high regeneration.
Campaign Progression and Early Leveling
The build begins as a standard Templar fire caster. Use Magma Orb for the very early levels. At level 12, immediately swap to Absolution.
- Skill Tree Pivot: Respec out of early elemental damage nodes and into minion damage nodes.
- Spiritual Aid: Prioritize the “Spiritual Aid” notable. This ensures your initial hits kill normal monsters to instantly summon three Absolution Sentinels.
- Speed Scaling: Taking minion attack and cast speed nodes is vital. Because these nodes also grant the player attack speed, your Shield Charge becomes much faster, allowing for quicker zone transitions and over-leveling.
The Power of Sentinel of Radiance
The first Ascendancy node to take is the Sentinel of Radiance (affectionately nicknamed the “Pocket Pox”). This is a massive power spike for several reasons:
- Scaling: It scales with minion life and percent damage. It persists through zones and does not require socket links to be effective.
- Defense: It provides a 20% damage reduction (DR) by diverting damage from the player to the Sentinel.
- Utility: The Sentinel taunts enemies on hit. In most campaign scenarios, enemies will target the Sentinel instead of the player.
- Offense: It has a massive Righteous Fire aura that burns nearby enemies, which is further improved by taking Area of Effect (AoE) nodes on the tree.
Defensive Layers and Block Mechanics
In a Gauntlet or HCSSF environment, avoiding “Ruin” mechanics (found in Ultimatum) and heavy hits is mandatory.
- Block: By picking up block wheels and a shield with a decent block roll, you can reach the block cap. This is essential because blocking a hit prevents the application of Ruin stacks.
- Auras: Once you acquire the 12% Mana Reservation Efficiency mastery, you can run Determination, Tempest Shield, and Flesh and Stone simultaneously.
- Recovery: After completing the Merciless Labyrinth, swap the block mastery to “Life and Mana Recovery on Block” for high sustain in dense packs.
Mana Sustain and Utility Gems
Running multiple high-reservation auras leaves little unreserved mana. Solve sustain through these methods:
- Mystic Bulwark: Provides 1% mana regeneration per 5% block chance.
- Lightning Golem: Acts as a “free” Clarity aura. It provides substantial flat mana regeneration and attack/cast speed.
- Note: If you run out of mana, check if your Lightning Golem has died and re-summon it immediately.
- Convocation: Use this manually. Do not automate it. Manual control allows you to reposition the Sentinel of Radiance onto bosses or blue packs to ensure they are taunted and burned by its RF aura.
Gear and Gem Link Recommendations
Vaal Absolution is the single most important upgrade. It can more than double your single-target damage. Attempt to get one early in Act 2 via the Temple of Atzoatl corruption chamber or by using Vaal Orbs.
Main Links (Absolution):
- Absolution
- Faster Casting (Swap for Spell Echo in Act 4)
- Physical to Lightning
- Added Fire Damage (or Hypothermia once you have Hatred from Relics)
Movement:
- Shield Charge
- Momentum
- Faster Attacks
Support Minions:
- Lightning Golem: Linked with Feeding Frenzy and Elemental Army.
- Spectres: Use the “monkey” chieftains for charges.
- Stygian Silverback (Act 2): Grants Frenzy Charges.
- Host Chieftain (Act 7): Grants Power Charges.
Endgame Transition
The Absolution setup is intended to carry the character through the campaign and initial Atlas progression (T1–T10 maps). For late-game Ubers in the Gauntlet, a transition to a Hierophant or Guardian utilizing Scorching Ray of Immolation totems is a potential option. This skill allows for stacking damage over time (DoT) instances from multiple totems, providing consistent damage while the player focuses entirely on dodging and defense.
