Everything you need to know about Path of Exile 2 0.5
Summary
- Major Endgame Overhaul: Complete rework of the Atlas and endgame onboarding to provide more direction and finite progression before opening into the infinite Atlas.
- New Content: Two new Ascendancy classes, 15 new pinnacle bosses, and a fully reworked Atlas Passive Skill Tree.
- Masters of the Atlas: A new meta-progression system that acts like an Ascendancy system for the Atlas itself.
- Runes of Aldor League: A crafting-focused mechanic involving over 100 runes and the new Runic Ward defensive layer.
- “Upping” System: Ability to upgrade low-level unique items to high-level base types, making early-game uniques viable for the endgame.
- Integrated Build Planner: A new in-game tool to follow build guides directly within the client.
- Road to 1.0: Patch 0.5 is confirmed as the final major update before the official 1.0 launch in late 2026.
Endgame Rework and The Atlas
The next patch reworks everything related to the endgame, changing the onboarding process for every mechanic to remedy the “lost” feeling players experience when first entering the Atlas.
- Directional Progression: Mechanics are distributed geographically on the Atlas (e.g., Southeast, Southwest). Players can immediately choose which league mechanic to pursue.
- Questlines: Every endgame mechanic now features a dedicated questline and a pinnacle boss.
- Origins of Divinity: The main Atlas quest involves the “Ancient Fortress.” Completing the first tower spawns the fortress, filling the Atlas with maps that offer extra rewards and new mapping mechanics.
- The Arbiter: A new Arbiter boss encounter unlocks the infinite Atlas.
- Mapping Mechanics: New systems allow for high-intensity encounters, such as double bosses or six bosses within a single Ritual.
Delirium: The Hair and the Raven
- Questline: Elder Maddox points to the source of the Delirium on the Atlas.
- Tangmazu: It is now confirmed that Tangmazu is the voice of the Delirium and serves as the pinnacle boss of this mechanic.
- Visual Improvements: The UI now clearly shows Delirium depth and spawn timers.
- Red Shards: These shards send players into a nightmare instance (modeled after the “Shrek swamp” zone from PoE 1).
- Distilled Emotions: A new tier of rewards used for anoints and modifying jewels with guaranteed affixes.
Ritual Rework
- Questline: Players search for Aifa, the Druid’s wife, who was stolen by the Ritual NPC.
- Rewards: Standard Rituals now primarily drop uniques and omens. Unspent tribute progresses toward the King of the Mists fight.
- Empowered Rituals: After defeating the King of the Mists, players can run empowered Ritual maps. Each map adds the previous boss to the next Ritual, creating high-intensity encounters.
- High-Value Loot: Empowered Rituals provide a path toward rare rewards like Mageblood, though these may act as significant currency sinks.
Breach: The Genesis Tree
- NPC Relations: Chayula returns as a friendly NPC.
- Genesis Tree: The tree system is significantly more complex than the version in Path of Exile 1.
- Mechanics: Players collect hive blood to power the tree. Normal Breaches function like “unstable” breaches; players must kill monsters to fill a bar and stabilize the zone.
- Sky Fortresses: Breachstones are now obtained via Boon gifts, and Breach shards have been removed. Defeating Breach bosses eventually grants access to Esh, the final Breach boss.
Masters of the Atlas
This system allows players to “ascend” their Atlas through three new NPCs: Jin, Hilda, and a Vaal-associated character (likely Doryani).
- Complete missions to level up Masters.
- Unlock and allocate points in small, master-specific passive trees.
- Switch between Masters to customize farming strategies and agency over gameplay.
Atlas Passive Skill Tree Rework
The tree has been redesigned to offer more agency without forcing players into a single path.
- Full Allocation: Players can eventually allocate every point on the tree.
- Mastery-Style Nodes: Many nodes offer multiple-choice options (similar to Masteries in PoE 1). For example, a Shrine node might offer a 25% chance for a player to get a shrine, or a 25% chance for the boss to get a shrine in exchange for better loot.
- Difficulty Scaling: This allows players to objectively make the content easier or harder based on their current build power.
New League Mechanic: Runes of Aldor
A highly crafting-focused mechanic combining elements of Crucible, Bestiary, and Expedition.
- Runic Crafting: Over 100 runes can be found through gameplay. These are combined at a crafting altar to create specific items or guaranteed rune drops.
- Verasium: A new resource used to power these crafting interactions.
- Runic Ward: This is a new defensive layer added to armor. It acts as additional effective health (EHP) rather than “one-shot protection” or a “cheat death” mechanic. If a player has 1000 Life and 100 Ward, a hit for 1100 damage will still result in death.
- Runic Skills: The system introduces new runic skills and support gems.
Expedition and “Upping”
- Kingsmarch: The settlement is destroyed, and players must use logbooks to sail the Atlas in search of Gwennen.
- Endgame Loop: Logbooks consist of map chains culminating in pinnacle bosses (e.g., Uthred, Olroth). Completing a logbook chain rewards a new logbook, allowing players to focus exclusively on Expedition if desired.
- Upping System: Players can now upgrade low-level unique items to higher-level base types. This allows uniques with powerful effects but low base stats (like 15 Energy Shield or low physical damage) to scale effectively into the late game.
New Ascendancy Classes
- Spirit Walker (Huntress): A subclass focused on summoning spirits. Players can specialize in specific summons or take all of them. It includes a “Tame Beast” mechanic to summon bosses, such as the gorilla or the Ultimatum bird.
- Martial Artist (Monk): A subclass utilizing illusions and channeling. Features include spawning illusions of a bell, a bell that procs on crits, and tattooing runes for extra bonuses.
New Unique Items
- Leap Slam Spear: A high-power spear that features a massive leap slam reminiscent of the Diablo Paladin.
- Raven Staff: A unique staff that provides a “Raven” version of the Righteous Fire skill.
1.0 Announcement and Timeline

- Release Window: There will be no new leagues until ExileCon. The 1.0 launch is scheduled for late November or early December 2026.
- Interim Events: GGG will host mini-leagues or events to bridge the gap between 0.5 and the full release.
