Delirium Changes | Path of Exile 2: Delirium Mechanics Recap

Summary

  • Mechanic Overhaul: The Delirium system has been significantly revamped in Path of Exile 2: Return of the Ancients, introducing a new progression bar to track depth and time.
  • Progress Tracking: A bar at the bottom of the screen monitors current delirium depth and the time remaining before the fog dissipates. The start of the bar indicates the Delirium mirror location, while the end represents the map boss.
  • Visual Guidance: Players can determine the direction that leads deeper into the fog by observing the visual effects on the map.
  • New Encounters: Special encounters now spawn at certain depths, marked on the progression bar, offering higher risks and better rewards.
  • Mirror Shards: New colored mirror shards provide specific challenges:
    • Purple Shards: Enhance enemies, making them larger, more powerful, and more “nightmarish,” while increasing rewards.
    • Red Shards: Transport players into the “depths of their mind,” requiring them to fight through hordes of enemies to escape.

Delirium Progression and UI

The Delirium mechanic now includes a clear progression bar located at the bottom of the screen. This bar serves as a primary tool for navigating the encounter, tracking both the current depth within the delirium fog and the remaining time before the encounter ends. The starting point of this bar corresponds to the initial Delirium mirror location, and the end point is consistently marked by the map boss. To navigate deeper into the madness, players can observe the visual fog effects to determine the correct direction.

New Encounter Mechanics

Beyond simple depth progression, the overhauled system introduces specialized encounters triggered by exploring the fog. These encounters are highlighted on the progression bar, providing transparency into upcoming challenges.

  • Enhanced Combat (Purple Shards): When encountering a purple mirror shard, shattering it causes all surrounding enemies to become nightmarish. These demons are significantly more powerful, larger, and scarier than standard enemies, but they offer substantially increased rewards.
  • Depths of the Mind (Red Shards): Shattering a red mirror shard transports the player into the “depths of their mind.” In this state, the player must fight off waves of their “worst fears” to successfully escape the encounter.
