Mechanics: Ball Lightning

  • Fire Infusions: Frost Bomb (combined with short detonation time, spell cascade, and limit) generates fire infusions.
  • Transformation: Fire infusions modify Ball Lightning by causing projectiles to decelerate, stick to walls, and create burning ground.
  • Damage Scaling: Burning ground ignites enemies (scalable via crits). When orbs dissipate, they explode; these explosions can “shotgun” (overlap) for massive damage, especially when positioned against terrain.
  • Utility: Ball Lightning beams continuously hit enemies and apply Shock.

Mechanics: Volcano

  • Channeling: Places a geyser on the ground that fires projectiles.
  • Optimized Scaling: Use low Area of Effect (AoE) and low projectile speed to ensure projectiles hit more frequently. Ricochet further increases hit counts via ground bounces.
  • Shockwave Totem Interaction: Shockwave Totem acts as a rapid-fire trigger, slamming the geyser to release projectile volleys. Each volcano can be slammed up to 10 times.
  • Off-hand: Use Quill Rain in the off-hand to maximize attack speed for the Shockwave Totem interaction.

Playstyle & Rotation

  1. Mapping:
    • Cast Frost Bomb in the path ahead.
    • Cast Ball Lightning (approx. 3 times per Frost Bomb) to blanket the screen in burning ground and explosions.
  2. Bossing:
    • Maintain Elemental Weakness, Exposure, and Sigil of Power.
    • Combo: Frost Bomb → Double VolcanoFlame Wall → Double Shockwave Totem.
    • Refresh Volcano every couple of seconds.

Requirements & Ascendancy

  • League Start: Not a dedicated leaguestarter. Play Essence Drain / Contagion (Elementalist/Lich) until Sire of Shards is acquired.
  • Minimum Requirements: Sire of Shards, 4-link Frost Bomb, Elemental Equilibrium, and Secrets of the Orb (passive tree).
  • Ascendancy (Blood Mage):
    • Vitality Siphon: Offsets life costs.
    • Sunder the Flesh: Provides critical base damage.
    • Grasping Wounds: Secondary defense.
    • Final Notable: Start with Crimson Power (for life pool/overflow); swap to Whispers of the Flesh later if life sustain is sufficient.

Gear & Uniques

  • Mandatory: Sire of Shards.
  • Highly Recommended: Quill Rain (off-hand).
  • Other Notables: Adzi’s Splendour (chest), Ingenuity (belt), Prisma Belief (helmet), and Grip of Coolamac (ring).
  • Charms: Nascent Hope, Fall of the Exiles, Bearer’s Anguish, or Right of Passage (if budget allows).

Tips

  • Performance: Use DX12 instead of Vulkan for better stability with burning ground effects.
  • Positioning: Drag bosses toward walls to maximize the shotgun effect of Ball Lightning explosions.
  • Mobility: Lightning Warp is recommended for movement and creating shock ground.
  • Sustainability: If mana/life costs are difficult, use Tech Rod’s Gaze (gloves) or Idol of Ishta (helmet).
